Vacuum tube audio components can add a life to music that only the most expensive solid-state gear can match. Tube amps typically sound louder, more dynamic, dimensional and transparent than a solid-state amp of the same rated output power. Tube amps have higher levels of distortion and don’t measure as well as solid-state; most solid state designs depend on large amounts of negative feedback to get that low distortion. High levels of feedback can kill the natural warmth and sterilize the music. Tube circuits generally overload more gracefully with lower-order harmonics so that less negative feedback is necessary for a warmer, more liquid sound. Tubes circuits are lightning fast and because there's fewer active elements the signal has to pass through there's less sonic degradation. Consider the typical tube power amp which has 3 to 4 active devices per channel, compared to a typical solid state amp which may have many times more. You may find that you can listen longer and at subjectively louder levels with tubes, as there’s less listener fatigue. So join the thousands of music lovers, musicians and discriminating audiophiles who rely on tubes to deliver the most satisfying sound.
