We believe that the equipment should serve the music; you shouldn't have to choose your music based on what sounds good on your system. We also believe the equipment should not add to the sound. Our products have the clarity and delicacy for highly detailed playback of your favorite recordings, whether they are minimalist audiophile or 70's murky multitrack. All the dynamic shadings, texture, nuance, air and ambiance will be presented as it was originally recorded.
At Elliott Studio Arts we strive to produce products of the highest quality and best value for the dollar. Each product is designed in-house and goes through rigorous prototyping so that all modifications to the circuit are done before it is brought to market - you won't end up with an outdated unit that needs an 'upgrade' for thousands of dollars. And that's good because our products are built to last a lifetime.
Each unit is hand built right here in America using robust construction techniques and quality modern parts, assembled the old fashioned way- by hand. No circuit boards are used in the signal path, instead all parts and wiring are installed 'point to point' on tag strips. Larger parts are secured with screws, rivets or zip ties. All parts are currently available and appropriate for their application, not NOS and impossible to get. The tubes we specify are high-quality common types, so future availability won't be a problem. The transformers, faceplates and casework are made in the USA, other parts sourced worldwide. Each unit is tested, burned in then personally auditioned in my own reference system before shipping.
Our products can be repaired by any competent service facility and carry a 5 year limited warranty on factory repairs for parts and labor (not tubes). We stand behind our products and offer limited free upgrades during the 5 year warranty period if an improvement is made to the design.
Products can be configured for international line voltages upon request.
Where it began-
Always working toward the best possible fidelity, I built my first tube amp in 1988 as a frustrated audiophile who couldn't afford the gear I wanted. Over the years, as audiophiles do, I felt the need to upgrade or improve the performance of my system and so ensued a long series of modifications to the design of the amplifier; starting as a stereo unit built on two chassis (one for the amp, the other for the power supply), then morphing to monoblocks and finally to the single chassis stereo unit featured here. Each step along the way the design and performance improved.
I then moved on to the preamplifier. In the '80's I purchased a used high-end tube preamp. I decided to see if there was any way I could tweak the design and made many improvements over the years to the power supply and eventually the phono stage. After I had exhausted all the possibilities for improving that design I decided to take what I had learned and build my own preamp. The new circuit would incorporate all the features I wanted (like headphone output!) and improve the performance further. The final design is nothing like that original preamp and sounds far more clean, quiet and detailed with more gain in the phono stage and the advantage of using output transformers.
Elliott Studio Arts officially started as a business in 1998 when a recording studio owner approached me to design and build a custom tube mic preamp. I have since built two of those units, modified other studio equipment and re-built some vintage hi-fi. Also prototyped: a tube driven spring reverb / preamp for instruments or mic, several loudspeaker systems and even a guitar amp.
Over 20 years working as a professional in commercial A/V design, installation and service has given me the opportunity to learn many things about signal transfer, wire technology, termination and reliability of connectors, grounding and shielding, gain structure and noise. Our products are built on that experience and are engineered to perform to better than commercial standards for reliability and sound quality.
